Appeals Policy & Procedure

Bella Jules Academy · Version 1.0 · Approved by Kimberley Hodson-Walker, Academy Director

Bella Jules Beauty, Aesthetics and Training Ltd is committed to a fair, transparent and supportive learning environment. This policy explains how learners can appeal a decision relating to their training, assessment, certification or academy procedures, and ensures all appeals are handled fairly and without discrimination.

What you can appeal

This policy covers appeals relating to assessment decisions, practical competency outcomes, course completion and certification decisions, recognition of prior learning, disciplinary decisions, reasonable adjustments and special considerations, and complaints not resolved through the Complaints Procedure.

Grounds for appeal

You may appeal if you believe an assessment decision was unfair or incorrect, procedures were not followed correctly, relevant evidence was not considered, there was bias or discrimination, extenuating circumstances were not adequately considered, or the academy acted inconsistently with its policies.

Appeals procedure

Stage 1 — Informal resolution

Discuss the matter with your trainer or assessor within 5 working days of the decision. They will aim to resolve it informally within 5 working days. If you remain dissatisfied, proceed to Stage 2.

Stage 2 — Formal written appeal

Submit a written appeal within 10 working days of the original decision, including your full name, course attended, date of decision, details of the appeal, supporting evidence and desired outcome. Send to kim@bellajules.co.uk or call 07778 963287. You will receive written acknowledgement within 5 working days.

Stage 3 — Investigation

The Academy Director or a designated senior member of staff will review all evidence, speak with relevant staff, review assessment records where applicable and consider academy policies. The investigation is normally completed within 10 working days.

Stage 4 — Outcome

You will receive a written outcome — appeal upheld, partially upheld or not upheld — clearly explaining the reasons. Actions may include a reassessment opportunity, a review of assessment decisions, additional support, amendment of records, or confirmation of the original decision.

Final review

If you remain dissatisfied you may request a final review within 10 working days of the outcome. Wherever possible this is conducted by a person not previously involved. The decision reached following the final review is final.

Assessment appeals & confidentiality

Where an appeal concerns an assessment result, the original records and your submitted evidence are reviewed, a second assessor may be appointed where appropriate, and a reassessment may be offered if needed. All appeal records are treated confidentially and stored securely in line with our Data Protection Policy.
